Dr. Samuel “Jack” Burrow
Our Founder I have been in private orthodontic practice since 1978 and was an adjunct professor at The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and went on to obtain a Master of Science in Orthodontics and finish an orthodontic residency at the University of Kentucky. I previously pursued a degree in engineering at North Carolina State University, graduating Cum Laude, and was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi National Honor Engineering Society, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, and Alpha Pi Mu Honor Society. I have been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, The Angle Orthodontist, Seminars in Orthodontics, and The Journal of Clinical Orthodontics. I am on the Editorial Board of the Angle Society, reviewing original articles. I am a member of The Angle Society, an invitation-only international group of orthodontists in both private and academic practice. Members are required to publish and review new research in orthodontics. I am a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Society of Orthodontists, the North Carolina Dental Society, and the Charlotte Dental Society. Dr. Samuel “Sam” Burrow
Board-Certified Orthodontist I am a speaker, teacher, author, and award-winning, board-certified orthodontic specialist. Since co-founding Burrow, Welchel & Culp Orthodontics in 2013, I have personally transformed the smiles of thousands of patients in the Greater Charlotte area. I have been invited to speak at a number of schools around the country to lecture to orthodontic residents in training including my alma mater, the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of North Carolina, and Harvard University on the mechanics of new-age orthodontics. I have worked with the latest technology and orthodontic systems offered and presented research to the American Association of Orthodontics on using scanning technologies to incorporate overall facial aesthetics into orthodontic practice. I am co-author of the book, The Orthodontic Answer Book: A Patients Guide Through Orthodontic Treatment. I also author two monthly publications – a monthly newsletter that is delivered to over 3,000 patients of Burrow, Welchel & Culp Orthodontics and a “Case of the Month“ newsletter that’s delivered to over 300 dental professionals in the greater Charlotte and Rock Hill area. As a board-certified orthodontist, I am committed to staying at the forefront of orthodontic technology and have been asked by numerous vendors to use, test, and provide feedback on various appliances and new technologies. Burrow, Welchel & Culp Orthodontics is the only practice in NC that has been certified to offer a new aligner treatment that is specialized to orthodontists. I have received the “Best Dentist of Charlotte” award from my peers every year I have been in practice and strive to keep my expertise, quality of work, and excellent patient experience my top priority.Education

Dr. Britney Welchel
Board-Certified Orthodontist Considered one of the country’s top leaders in the field of orthodontics, I am more than just a crafter of beautiful smiles. I am a published author, an internationally award-winning researcher, a dedicated speaker, and most of all a proud wife and mother. Providing exceptional service and clinical expertise to our patients is of utmost importance. I began my dental journey after a sports accident in high school left me with two avulsed teeth. As a teenager fresh out of braces myself, I fell in love with orthodontics after being exposed to the intricacies of the profession. Today, after years of education, collaboration with others in the field, and continued learning, I am at the forefront of orthodontic technology and techniques. I was awarded the Milo Hellman, an honor given to only one orthodontist annually by the American Association of Orthodontists, for my innovative research on corticotomies, which provided new and significant material of value to the art and science of orthodontics. The corticotomy procedure is a means of accelerating orthodontic tooth movement; I specifically studied bone grafting used during the technique and presented my research at the American Association of Orthodontists annual session. I was also recently presented the “Making a Difference” accolade by my orthodontic peers for my outstanding dedication and commitment to orthodontic excellence, devotion to clinical care, research, and scholarship, thus setting high standards for others to live up to. To me, this is the utmost honor as it demonstrates my continued passion to better our patients, our community, and our profession. Education I am a proud alumnus of Furman University. I graduated number one in my dental school class at the Medical University of South Carolina, then went on to complete a three-year residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry, where I was awarded the best-treated case in my class. To this day, I continue to teach the orthodontic residents at Baylor. As a board-certified orthodontist, I have achieved a status that only one in three orthodontists nationwide has accomplished. Dr. Alexander “Alex” Culp
5-Star-Rated Orthodontist & Pediatric Dentist I am one of the few dual-trained orthodontists and pediatric dentists in the country. I bring a caring and compassionate nature to make a profound and positive impact on the care of you and your child. My motivation for pursuing dual training comes from the inspiration I find in the precious moments I share with patients and their families. A Rock Hill native, I grew up as the son of a general dentist and a dental hygienist. Given my family’s involvement with dentistry, it was not uncommon for my family to discuss dental topics at a young age. These early conversations lead my identical twin brother and me to pursue careers in dentistry. Following dental school, I practiced general dentistry with my father and brother prior to deciding to pursue specialty training. While pursuing a two-year residency in Pediatric Dentistry, I completed training in preventive and therapeutic care for infants and children through adolescence. This training had a large emphasis on how I manage patients with medical complexities and special health care needs, as well as those with dental trauma. Through this program, I completed research regarding pulpal therapy for primary dentition and presented it at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s Annual Conference. During my final year of residency, I served my program as chief resident. Following completion of my first residency, I entered a three-year residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics where my studies focused on orthodontic care for both children and adults. Through this program, I conducted research focused on craniofacial growth and obtained a master’s degree. While in my final year of residency, I served as chief resident. I have successfully completed the board certification process through the American Board of Orthodontics and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, thus receiving designation as both a board-certified orthodontist and a board-certified pediatric dentist. I maintain Diplomate status through both organizations. In addition to private practice, I serve the Medical University of South Carolina’s Department of Orthodontics in the capacity of Clinical Associate Professor. My commitment to collaborative and patient-centered care and my commitment to academic involvement makes me a natural fit for the well-established practice of Burrow, Welchel & Culp Orthodontics.Education

Jack “Chip” Case Jr., D.D.S., M.S. I am a Charlotte native and a graduate of Olympic High School. I consider it a privilege to come home and practice the profession I love with family, friends, and fellow Charlotteans, where I have been practicing since 1983. I completed my undergraduate degree at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning induction into the honor societies of Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa. Remaining at UNC-CH, I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree with Honors and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon. I then received a Master of Science Degree in Orthodontics and won the prestigious Research Award. Dr. Brent Bowen
Board-Certified Orthodontist Dr. Brent graduated magna cum laude from the University of Central Florida and went on to the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham, Alabama. He was awarded a Health Profession Scholarship from the US Army before spending three years active of duty after his graduation. After serving our country, he purchased a private practice in Asheville, NC. With 10 years practicing general dentistry, he moved on to pursue orthodontics. He attended Seton Hill University Center for Orthodontics, earning certificates in Orthodontics, Dentofacial Orthopedics, and an MS in Orthodontics. He later relocated to Missouri and owned a practice in Rolla and St Robert, Missouri. A native of Orlando, Florida, Dr. Brent attended the Universities of Florida and Central Florida. When he isn’t rooting for his Florida Gators, he enjoys spending his free time outdoors hiking, mountain biking, and exercising to promote his longevity.
